AUDITIONS

WHERE: Unity, 1490 Southwood Drive., San Luis Obispo, CA

ACTORS, SINGERS, & DANCERS:

  • Be prepared to sing at least 32 bars of a (fully memorized) ROCK-style musical selection that showcases your vocal range. An accompanist will be provided. No a cappella singing or instrumentals on CD.
  • Please bring a current photo of yourself.
  • If the casting panel is interested in you for a particular role then you will be asked to read from the script following the singing portion of the audition.
  • Also, bring with you ALL of your conflicts from the date of your audition to March 30th opening. No conflicts during tech / dress week.
  • The possibility of call backs will be determined upon completion of the auditions. You will be contacted directly if cast.

CASTING

  • DR. FRANK N. FURTER: A cross dressing mad scientist from the planet of Transsexual in the galaxy of Transylvania, with good moves and a belting rock and roll voice of considerable range.
  • RIFF RAFF: A mysterious castle butler with a very strong tenor voice (high B), and an ability to sing loud "screeching" rock and roll riffs.
  • MAGENTA: Riff Raff's sister and incestuous partner, a sensuous castle domestic of Dr. Frank N. Furter, strong alto, "belty" rock voice. (low B to high E flat)
  • COLUMBIA: A tap-dancing castle groupie, strong alto "belt" voice, with ability to hold harmonies.
  • ROCKY: Frank's muscular, handsome creation, strong, supported tenor voice. (high A)
  • EDDIE: A former juvenile delinquent, tattoos and sizable girth a plus, with very strong tenor rock voice (high F#) and "belting" and "wailing" ability.
  • BRAD: A clean-cut, wholesome young man, strong tenor voice (high G) and ability to sing both lyrically and with strong rock and roll voice.
  • JANET: Brad's sweet fiancee, a naive, pretty ingenue, with a strong lyrical voice, also able to belt rock and roll, mostly second soprano range with an occasional high F.
  • DR. SCOTT: A rumpled scientist, high school tutor of Brad and Janet, strong mid range voice.
  • NARRATOR: Male or female, strong speaking voice, minimal singing and dancing.
  • SIX PHANTOMS: The Phantoms are a singing, dancing, acting chorus of uninhibited sex slaves of various body types, ages, and genders. They will serve as understudies and must have strong rock and roll voices, high energy, agile bodies, and the ability to hold harmonies. Ideally, this group will contain all voice ranges.

CASTING

  • DANNY: The leader of the “Burger Palace Boys”. Well-built, nice looking, with an air of cool easy-going charm. Strong and confident. Strong pop singer Eb to B.
  • SANDY: Danny’s love interest. Sweet, wholesome, naïve, cute “Sandra Dee of the “Gidget” movies. Strong pop singer. Mix/belt voice to D.
  • RIZZO: Leader of the “Pink Ladies”. Tough, sarcastic and outspoken but vulnerable. Italian, with unconventional good looks. Strong pop singer. Mix/belt voice to C.
  • FRENCHY: A dreamer. Good natured and dumb. Heavily made-up, fussy about her appearance – particularly her hair. Can’t wait to finish high school so she can be beautician. Mix/belt voice to B.
  • MARTY: The “beauty” of the Pink Ladies. Pretty, looks older than the other girls, but betrays her real age when she opens her mouth. Tries to act sophisticated. Strong singer. Mix/belt to Db.
  • JAN: A compulsive eater. Loud, pushy with the girls, but shy with the boys. Strong singer. Mix/belt voice F to C#.
  • KENICKIE: Second in command of the “Burger Palace Boys”. Tough looking, tattooed, surly, avoids any show of softness. Off-beat sense of humor. Strong singer Baritone A to F#.
  • DOODY: Youngest of the guys. Small, boyish, open, with a disarming smile and a hero-worshipping attitude toward the other guys. Strong tenor to A with additional falsetto.
  • ROGER: The “anything for-a-laugh” stocky type. Full of mischief, half-baked schemes and ideas. A clown who enjoys putting other people on. Strong pop singer. Tenor to A.
  • SONNY: Italian-looking, with shiny black hair and dark oily skin. A braggart and wheeler-dealer who thinks he’s a real lady killer. Baritone G to C.
  • PATTY: A typical cheerleader of a middle class American public school. Catty, but in an all American sort of way.
  • CHA-CHA: A “blind date”. Takes pride in being “the best dancer at St. Bernadette.” Strong pop singer. Mix/belt voice low G to C.
  • EUGENE: Class valedictorian. Physically awkward, with weak eyes and high-pitched voice.
  • VINCE FONTAINE: Typical “teen audience” radio disc jockey. Slick, egotistical, fast-talking. A veteran “greaser”. Non-singing role.
  • JOHNNY CASINO: A “greaser” student at Rydell who leads a rock and roll band and likes to think of himself as a real rock “n” roll idol. Baritone G to E.
  • TEEN ANGEL: Good looking falsetto voiced matinee idol type. Strong pop singer.
  • MISS LYNCH: An old maid English teacher. Non-singing role.
